Not many American cities are as lucky as New Orleans when it comes to an abundance of art, music, and culture. An even better perk of this centuries-old city is that many of these events are free! That’s the case with the NOLA Downtown Music and Arts Festival. Come and celebrate the best of Downtown New Orleans at this August event.

Downtown Music and Arts Festival

Take a break from Bourbon and visit the coolest up-and-coming area of New Orleans. On August 23–26, 2017, Cutting Edge Events presents the NOLA Downtown Music and Arts Festival. The festival is held all the way from Andrew Higgins Drive and Diamond Street to Fulton Street and the Piazza d’Italia. These four days will be filled with emerging artists, film series, classic cars, pop-up shopping, food trucks, bowling, and more. The festival is part of a larger conference – the 25th Cutting Edge CE Conferences and Events.

If you’re just coming for the public festival, then activities will start Friday, August 25 at 4 p.m. Things will kick off with the screening of the Music in Films documentary series. New Orleans artists Charlie Wooton, The GrayHawk Band, The Sheik with Resurrection, and special nolaAmericana tribute by Lynn Drury will play. On Saturday, attendees can enjoy a New Orleans Saints gameday tailgate at Central City BBQ. The Chitlin’ Circuit Revisited Jam will performing on the main stage and will be followed by local and visiting artists who participated in Chitlin’ Circuit Jam Sessions in the past. If you know a music artist interested in participating, let them know they’re invited to join! Shows will take place at spots like Sidney’s Saloon, Peaches Record Store, Prime Example Jazz Club, and the InterContinental Hotel.

The festival is presented as part of a larger conference put on by the Music Business Institute. The aim of the conference is to provide an intimate environment for musicians and entertainment professionals to connect, foster career opportunities, and stay up-to-date about developments within the field. This year, the conference features speakers such as Thomas Barose, Linda Septein, and Scott Billington. You can find more information about the conference online, including options for registration.
